On February 14th, Project Bridge held our 3rd Annual Middle School Honor Band Festival. We had 109 7th & 8th grade students nominated from 18 middle schools from Central and Southeast Ohio. These young musicians arrived early Saturday morning and were handed music they had never played before. They had group rehearsals with Dr. William Talley, Ohio University Director of Bands, as well as instrument specific classes throughout the day. Then at 4:00 in the afternoon they performed a concert for friends, family and other music lovers. What a great experience it was for them to grow musically, meet new friends, and make wonderful memories!

We traveled with 66 down to Ohio University to watch the Marching 110 Varsity Show. The 7th and 8th grade middle school students were treated to a pizza dinner in Glidden Hall before the show. We had a visit from several Logan High School band alumni including Arabella Gordon, Andrew Brown, Jaxon Novak, Cole Hoffman, Emrie Dickerson and Jordan Praither. They told about their experience in the Logan Band as well as their experience in continuing music at Ohio University. Afterwards we headed over to Templeton Blackburn Alumni Memorial Auditorium to watch the show. It was a great night for the kids as they got to see the magic of being in band at many levels.

We took 117 middle school students from Logan-Hocking Middle School to Ohio University to the Hallowpalooza Concert. The 5th and 6th grade band students had a really great experience. Many of them indicated this was the first concert they had ever attended. They were able to listen to a wide variety of instruments as well as experience many different styles of music. The OU School of Music was able to make the event fun as well as educational.

Experiences like this help these young musicians deepen their love for music and see the exciting possibilities that come with being part of band. They came back buzzing with excitement and eager to keep improving on their instruments.
